WAYS TO VOLUNTEER
See where you can make an impact.
Volunteering at The City Mission means joining us in our mission to provide practical help and lasting hope to individuals and families in crisis.
Family Ministries
Serving as a Christian mentor for one hour each week can have an immensely positive impact to help encourage and uplift a child who has experienced the trauma of homelessness.

Food Service
Each day we serve more than 600 meals. Your help serving or sponsoring a meal is a wonderful gift as we continue to provide healthy, hot meals 365 days a year.
Material Gift Inventory
We are grateful for so many donations of clothing, towels, sheets, hygiene, and baby items and could use extra hands to help sort and organize.

Operations Support
Volunteers in all areas of our ministry, including administrative, are crucial. If you are looking to volunteer in a professional role, your talents would be a great blessing.
Volunteer in Place
VIP
Volunteer on your schedule – at the time and place that works for you. Volunteer in Place (VIP) Projects are open to individuals and groups, and can be completed anywhere. These opportunities are great for youth and all ages.
Volunteer FAQs
I'm interested in a one-time service opportunity.
For Group Service Projects, please email the Volunteer Department to coordinate. For the best experience, it’s important to inquire 6-9 weeks before the intended date of service through our form. However, we will do our best to accommodate! Here are some examples of one-time service opportunities:
- Done in a Day Projects – painting, cleaning, organizing or landscaping projects at our Main Campus or Laura’s Home.
- Crossroads Fun – Men’s groups to come and provide crafts, snacks, activities and fun opportunities for the men at Crossroads on weekends or evenings (ie. Watch a ball game, bring games or cards, tournaments, etc.). Email our team to start the conversation.
- Adopt a Day Out of School in Pathways – Adult Groups (5-15 volunteers) come to provide crafts, snacks, activities and fun for our school-age children on days out of school and during Summer Break from 9-11:30am and/or 12:45 – 2:30pm. To inquire about open days, please email the Volunteer Department.
- Meal Providing – supplying, preparing and serving a meal at Laura’s Home or Crossroads. Please read the Crossroads Dining Room Handbook and Laura’s Home Dining Room Handbook prior to reaching out about coordinating a date to serve.
All volunteers must be at least 18 years old or serve with an approved chaperone to participate in any of the positions listed above. Only the Adult Chaperone needs to complete a volunteer application process.
I need to log my volunteer hours.
If you served recently and forgot to log-in at our volunteer iPad, please email the Volunteer Coordinator at getinvolved@thecitymission.org.
Can I view the volunteer handbook to see what is expected of a volunteer before I attend Volunteering 101?
Sure! We want to give you the best picture of what it looks like to volunteer at the Mission before you commit. View the volunteer handbook here.
