Serving Cleveland since 1910

For over 100 years, generations of men, women, and children have received assistance, encouragement, and loving support through The City Mission.

The city of Cleveland and local churches unite in response to poverty from the Industrial Revolution; the Mission opens in an abandoned saloon on Superior Ave.

1929 moves to 801 st claire

The Mission moves to 801 St. Claire Ave. This new location helped reach more people downtown and supported the organization’s growth.

1951 women's auxiliary

The Women’s Auxiliary begins. This fostered collaboration between churches and the mission and presented volunteer service opportunities.

1964 moves 408 w st claire

The Mission moves to another new location at 408 W. St. Claire Ave., the Grand Arcade. This location offered more room for recreational activities and space for emergency shelter for men.

1966 opens grand valley camp

The City Mission opens Grand Valley Camp. This provided youth activities during the summer months.

1981 crisis center opens

The Mission opens the first crisis center for women experiencing homelessness in Cleveland – Angeline Christian Home.

Laura’s Home opens on Cleveland’s west side.

2014 new horizons opens

The New Horizons program begins.

2022 laura's home completes

Laura’s Home completes 10,000 square foot addition to house childcare and youth programs. Capital improvements are made to Crossroads and the administrative buildings.

Linda Uveges started her career at The City Mission as a volunteer in 2003. She joined the staff in 2005, and served in a wide variety of roles before becoming The City Mission’s Chief Executive Officer. Linda’s passion is to serve our unhoused neighbors in Greater Cleveland through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

John began working with The City Mission in 2003, and has served in various roles within the organization since that time. In the spring of 2019, John became the Mission’s Chief Financial Officer. In addition to his work at The City Mission, John spent a decade in a financial and analytical leadership position with an industry-leading software company, and has a wide array of experience in finance, analytics, operations, and IT.

John believes there is an urgency to sharing the gospel, and to that end, he is active in outreach ministries in his church and neighborhood. John holds an MBA from Wayne State College, a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Liberty University, and an associate’s degree in Accounting from Lakeland Community College.

Michele began work at The City Mission as the Chief Development Officer in 2018. In her current role she’s most passionate about intersecting the lives of individuals and families experiencing crisis by providing hope, material assistance, and emotional and spiritual healing – leading to the opportunity for transformational change.

Before joining the Mission’s team, she was employed in various development roles with Recovery Resources and Cornerstone Pregnancy Services, and has a decade of business experience in sales and marketing. Michele holds a B.A. in Business Administration and Marketing from Grove City College.

Hahn

Michael Hahn joined The City Mission in 2016 as the Security Manager, and soon transitioned into the critical role of Crossroads Men’s Crisis Center Program Manager in March of 2017. Michael then served as Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center Program Manager until transitioning into the role of Director of Programs in July of 2021.

With prior experience and service as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer and manager of a children’s home for at-risk teenagers, Michael is uniquely equipped to assist families and individuals as they enter recovery and deal with years of trauma. He describes the opportunity to develop a culture of discipleship that will aid in restoration as the Mission work he’s most passionate about. Michael holds a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Bowling Green State University, as well as a Masters of Arts in Executive Leadership with Liberty University.
